National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (Office Women's Health)
Nationally on March 10th, during Women’s History Month, The Office of Women’s Health sponsors a day of awareness for Women and Girls around HIV/AIDS. Similar to other national HIV/AIDS Awareness Days, this day focuses attention on the impact of HIV/AIDS on our women. It is important that we empower our women and girls to know HIV/AIDS, get tested, and protect their negative status. There should be no shame in asking your partner’s status, requiring a condom from your partner, carrying your own condoms, using the female condoms, or using dental dams. These are all important measures for our women and girls in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on women and women of color are critical factors that call for our attention, action, and awareness.
Take a moment today and refresh your knowledge about HIV/AIDS, prevention, and care. Today is about Women and Girls, but for the men and boys — know that we all have sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, nieces, and granddaughters that need to be aware about HIV/AIDS. Take this moment to talk to our sisters, sisters talk to each other, and let’s focus energy on preventing HIV.
